LLOYD’S THE BANKER TO MAKE IT BIG

- BY LINDSAY SUTTON

LLOYD KELLY might have been forgiven for being frustrated at not getting a decent first-team run at Bristol City.

The 19-year-old local lad was always in the shadow of Joe

Bryan – until he left for Premier League Fulham on deadline day.

Then just as opportunity seemed to knock, in came Chelsea’s talented young left-back prospect Jay Dasilva on loan for a year at Ashton Gate.

But on Saturday, Kelly was selected to tackle Bolton.

Composed and effective throughout, thrusting forward when he could, Kelly duly lifted the man-of-the-match honours.

It was only the 15th time he has turned out for the Robins, but assistant boss Dean Holden insisted: “I think Lloyd can go all the way to the top.

“He’s still a young player but he’s waited patiently for his chance, and that has come now that Joe has left.”

Jamie Paterson, who added to Andreas Weimann’s strike to rub out Bolton’s two-goal lead, was equally complimentary.

Paterson admitted: “We were disappointed to lose Joe, but we were all pleased to see Lloyd have such a great game – he has a great future.”

A bundled goal by Will Buckley (above) was swiftly followed by a well-taken strike from new signing Josh Magennis to give Bolton a two-goal advantage before City fought back.

Macron boss Phil Parkinson admitted that without technology Buckley might not have been awarded his goal, with Marlon Pack heading out his effort from a fraction behind the goal-line.
