On The Pulse

- NIALL REDMOND

Tonight Niels Luinenburg aka Delta Funktionen makes his Irish debut in the Kaizen Bar upstairs in Tengu. The Dutchman, now based in Berlin, cinematic DJ sets keep you on your toes rather than stuck in one place, and do so by calling on a number of different styles and genres, while all the time retaining that important sense of fun.

His performances are as much for the body as they are for the soul.

His raw and edgy approach carries over into the studio, where Delta Funktionen (inset) has cooked up three full length albums and many EPS that focus on hardware set-ups and are informed by sci-fi imagery, political overtones and conceptual back stories.

Often focusing on two or three bits of gear for each project, he always evolves with each new release, which keeps both himself and his fans guessing as to what might come next.

The differing concepts and artwork with each release makes them standalone propositions with their own identities.

Early on his music came on the Delsin imprint, but now it comes on his own label Radio Matrix, priding itself on also releasing music from little known but talented artists with their own stories to tell, while encouraging artists to step out of their comfort zones, much like the Luinenburg himself has been doing throughout his storied career.

DJ wise he is a regular all over Europe, the States, the Far East and Australia at esteemed clubs like Concrete, Tresor and Fabric.

After formerly being a resident at Trouw and Shelter, he now has his residency at Tresor. Tonight he is joined by locals Dark Trax, Reevs and Alex Gram, Vlad Miller and Jay Carroll. Tickets are €15 and doors are 10pm.

Pyg present the return of Paranoid London tomorrow night with their blend of acid, analogue house with live vocals all the way, all pressed to vinyl with no promo.

They began working together in 2007, and have released eight times on their self titled label thus far, with an album expected later in the year. Pyg have showcased these guys’ warehousey dance floor bangers for quite a while now, and tomorrow welcome them to back to the vaults where they’ve blown the roof off every time they’ve played.

Support from PYG head honcho Colin Perkins and Ryan Healy kicks things off from 6pm in the bar, €10.
