longest-running beauty pageants.
Established in 1947 it has been the launch pad for many well-known and successful women including model boss Andrea Roche, blogger Holly Carpenter, top model Sarah Morrissey and journalist Amanda Brunker.
Miss Ireland boss, Brendan Marc Scully, said this year the competition is focusing strongly on “female empowerment” and he has enlisted an allfemale line-up of judges Rosanna Davison for the 71st year of the pageant. Next month’s event will take place in Dublin’s Helix Theatre on September 16.
The winner will go on to represent Ireland in the Miss World 2018 pageant which will take place in Sanya, China on December 8. Linda Nolan LINDA Nolan said she selfharms and does not realise she is doing it.
The ex-nolans singer, 59, began after the death from cancer of husband Brian Hudson in 2007.
She appeared on ITV’S Loose Women, where sister Coleen is a panellist, after a report found one in four girls of 14 self-harms.
Linda told how she bit her hand or rubbed her skin until she bled.
She said: “I know it sounds dramatic but the pain took away the pain from here,” indicating her heart. “Sometimes I do it and I don’t even know it.”
She was asked by her sister how it made her feel better and she replied: “It’s still pain, but it’s a different kind of pain.”
