of his son in Paris. Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley had already annoyed Mourinho by claiming in June that the player needed to move because he missed out on a place in France’s World Cup-winning squad.

The relationship between Mourinho and the United board, led by executive vice chairman Ed Woodward (below), has become fractured over the summer with the club refusing to sanction the purchase of players they believe would not have a re-sale value.

The manager’s position at Old Trafford is safe for now but he is under increasing pressure to turn around United’s worst start to a Premier League campaign since 1992.

Club legend Ryan Giggs says it is time for Manchester United players to start “shutting a few people up”.

The Reds travel to Burnley on Sunday and Giggs said: “Burnley is a fantastic game to get rid of all that negativity around the club.

“That is what I would be looking forward to, looking forward to Sunday and shutting a few people up.”

Giggs, now Wales manager, recalled the inaugural season of the Premier League when Sir Alex Ferguson’s men rallied from a poor start to win the title in 1993.

Giggs added: “We had just lost out to Leeds in the old Football League season, then we started out by losing to Sheffield United and Everton and drawing against Ipswich.

“The spotlight is so much more now, but it is about that game against Burnley. Win that game and you get a bit of a respite.”

ANTHONY MARTIAL has been offered a fiveyear deal by Manchester United, a huge slap in the face for manager Jose Mourinho.

United are keen to tie Martial down until 2023, despite Mourinho’s attempts to get rid of him this summer.

The Frenchman, axed from the squad for the defeat by Spurs on Monday, is ready to accept the £130,000-a-week offer, believing he will outlast his gaffer at Old Trafford.

In July Mourinho fined the quicksilver forward a total of two weeks’ wages for quitting United’s pre-season tour in America to attend the birth
