two Government ministers said they will boycott Donald trump’s visit to Ireland and will join in protests against him instead.

John Halligan and Finian Mcgrath both confirmed they will avoid any State events involving the US President.

The Independent Alliance ministers said they will join anti-trump demonstrations already being organised by opposition parties.

The White House revealed on Friday that Mr Trump will spend two days here in November “to renew the deep and historic ties between our two nations”.

However, the announcement was met with backlash protests and boycotts already being planned around the country.

It is expected the mass protests will cause major security headaches for the Government and gardai.

Training and Skills Minister Mr Halligan said: “If I was to meet him, there’d be an argument.”

He told The Sunday Business Post: “I hope he does come, because there will be massive demonstration.

“I treat him with disdain, I think his attitude towards women and LGBTI people and other countries is divisive.

“I can’t stop him coming. If he comes, let him come, but I would hope to be demonstrating against him.”

Minister Mcgrath added: “I do believe he is [a] danger to the international situation. So I wouldn’t be going to any official State ceremonies.”

The White House confirmed Mr Trump is expected to visit Ireland as part of his planned trip to Europe in November.

He will stop off on his way to or from the Armistice commemorations in Paris on November 11.

Meanwhile, organisers of the infamous London protest that featured the enormous baby Trump blimp said they will bring it on an international tour, including his visit to France.

Kevin Smith added: “We’d love to speak to any groups in Ireland who are organising demonstrations for the Trump visit. Get in touch and we will bring him over.”

The visit will be Mr Trump’s first trip to Ireland since he was inaugurated as US President last January.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and his predecessor Enda Kenny both invited the him to Ireland when they visited the White House on St Patrick’s Day in the past two years.
