FOUR PEOPLE KILLED IN WEEKEND CRASHES

Four people lost their lives in separate road traffic accidents over the weekend.

A 38-year-old woman died after she was hit by a car at around 12.10am yesterday.

The crash happened at Muinagh, on the Clara Road between Clara and Tullamore in Co Offaly.

She was struck by a car and was taken to Tullamore General Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The driver, a man aged 36, was also taken to the same hospital for treatment but his injuries are not believed to be serious.

On Saturday evening a motorcycli­st was killed when he collided with a car in Tipperary. Gardai are probing the crash, which happened on the N24 at Deerpark, between Clonmel and Carrick-on-suir, at 6.15pm.

The man, in his late 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The female driver of the car was uninjured. Gardai are seeking witnesses for both incidents. Meanwhile, officers are also investigat­ing a fatal collision in Co Cavan on Friday night.

A 60-year-old male pedestrian died after being hit by a van at Greagharue on the Bailieboro to Kells road at around 9.10pm. He was named locally as dad-of-two Brendan Heery, from Cormeen Lower, Kells, Co Meath. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

And a man in his 40s died yesterday when he was struck by a truck on the M8 in Co Tipperary. It took place on the southbound carriagewa­y at around 5pm and the pedestrian died a short time later at the scene.

The road was closed between junctions 11 and 12 and diversions were put in place.
