Rescue divers search River Shannon for missing man

- BY DAVID RALEIGH

Thomond Bridge A MAJOR search operation was launched last night for a man missing in the River Shannon.

A bus driver claimed he saw him enter the water Thomond Bridge in Co Limerick.

A source at the scene said: “It happened at around 7.20pm.

“He was seen by a bus driver. The man has not been found.”

Divers from Limerick Marine Search and Rescue Service along with Swift Water Rescue Technicians attached to Limerick City and County Fire Service responded to the scene.

Gardai and two ambulance crews were also in attendance.

The Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter Rescue 115 also responded but has since stood down and returned to its base at Shannon Airport.

A Limerick Marine Search and Rescue spokesman said last night they requested the ESB switch off underwater turbines at the Ardnacrusha power station to allow their divers to carry out further searche.

He added: “We have to wait for the pressure to stabilise. If the turbines were switched on it would be pumping the water out like a washing machine, so it wouldn’t be great for us.

“We are going to dive for him tonight.” JENNIFER Lopez lapped up the morning sunshine as she enjoyed a coffee yesterday.

The singer, 49, had earlier been snapped posing in a hoodie with her back-up dancers ahead of the last 15 shows of her All I Have residency in Las Vegas.

It certainly looks as though the mum of two has been keeping in shape for her gigs. Jennifer Lopez enjoys coffee in Las Vegas yesterday
