Mum’s joy as ‘miracle quads’ go to school

- BY CHARLOTTE NISBET

AN Irish mum who was told to terminate two of her quadruplets has shared her delight as the four of them get ready to start school.

Doctors told Grace Slattery she was at risk of a fourth miscarriage when she was pregnant with quadruplets and was advised to abort two in order to give the others a chance.

But she decided to ignore medical advice, given when she was 17 weeks pregnant.

And four years on, the proud Limerick mum has revealed her four “miracle” children are about to start school.

After three years of struggling with infertility, Grace and her husband, James, 37, were dumbfounded when they discovered they’d naturally conceived quads.

She managed to carry the quads until she was 32 weeks pregnant and Amelia, Lily-grace, Mollie and Lucas were all born weighing between 2lbs and 4lbs.

Despite Amelia being born with her organs in the wrong place, she is now as healthy as the other three.

The inseparable quads now can’t wait to start pre-school and Grace revealed she decided to buy 10 school uniforms to ensure they have enough to last them each week.

She said: “I couldn’t be more proud of the quadruplets and seeing them in their school uniforms is amazing.

“Their uniforms are comfy and there’s no getting them out of them once they’re on.

“The school run will be fun as it’s almost impossible to keep my eye on all four but the quadruplets love making new friends so I know they’ll love it.”
