Star Khan prove ‘em all wrong

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

AMIR KHAN claims he is driven to land a pay-per-view blockbuster by the critics who keep writing him off.

Khan faces Samuel Vargas at Arena Birmingham on Saturday with the lure of fighting Kell Brook or Manny Pacquiao in December and says he has proved before he is not finished.

He remembers being written off after losing to Breidis Prescott in 2008 before winning his first world title the following year.

The former unified lightwelterweight champ was also dismissed following his back-to-back losses to Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia only to bounce back with a classy win over Devon Alexander.

Khan is determined to prove the doubters wrong again, who said his career was over when he was sparked out by Saul

‘Canelo’ Alvarez in 2016.

“The first fight I lost, people said I was done, but I came back and won the world title,” said Khan.

“The second fight I lost, people said I was done, but I came back and had probably one of the best performances of my career.

“Then I got beat by Canelo, but in my last fight against Phil Lo Greco, I finished him pretty quick.

“I never let it get to me. It motivates me to keep proving people wrong.”

Promoter Eddie Hearn is working on a box office clash with bitter rival Brook at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium in December or former gym-mate Pacquiao.

“If it’s Kell Brook or Manny Pacquiao, these fights can happen quite easily,” said Khan. “I just want a big fight after this.”
