Fergus is Conteing on Felipe

- BY CIARAN O RAGHALLAIGH

FELIPE CONTEPOMI could be Leinster’s secret ingredient as they chase an unprecedented double-double this season.

The Argentine was installed as Leinster’s new backs coach this summer, replacing Girvan Dempsey.

And Fergus Mcfadden has tipped the former out-half to provide an extra edge to the Blues attack.

Mcfadden said: “When I came out of school and got my first few caps in 2007, I was training with Felipe who was one of the people I looked up to from a rugby perspective.

“We’re all energised by him coming in. It’s strange for a few of us who have played with him, for sure, but for the younger guys he’s already brought his own spices to the recipe and I think we’re going to see them over the coming months.

“Hopefully we’ll be a lot more potent as a backline.

“He was an exciting player but I think the messages that he has been sending through to the team are definitely very simple ones and the stuff he’s doing in training seems to be working.”

Leinster will look to Mcfadden to score tries in Contepomi’s attack but the versatile winger or centre is ready to add some points from another source.

He kicked one penalty in Leinster’s 33-32 win over Cardiff last Friday, bringing his club tally to 419 points.

Mcfadden had booted 107 points in the Heineken Cup winning 2011/2012 season and is ready to step up again now Joey Carbery has moved to Munster.

He said: “The fact Joey is gone now, I’ll definitely be looking to be a viable option for games.”
