HUTCH MURDER COPS SEEK ARRESTS ABROAD
GARDAI are hoping to arrest a number of people based abroad over the gangland murder of innocent Eddie Hutch.
The 58-year-old died of gunshot wounds to the head after being attacked at his home on February 8, 2016.
Yesterday, two relatives of Mr Hutch, from Poplar Row in Ballybough, Dublin, were in the public gallery of the city’s Coroner’s Court for his inquest.
Applying for a 12-month adjournment, Insp Aidan Flanagan revealed 493 statements had been taken and nine arrests made.
He added: “We have completed 1,203 investigative tasks in relation to this case. There are still a number of tasks to be completed.
“There are a number of arrests yet to be made, some of whom outside the jurisdiction.”
The inquest was previously opened and adjourned in July 2016 after a brother of the deceased gave evidence.
John Hutch told how he had gone to view the body on February 10.
In his deposition he said: “I was shown reside my brother Eddie in the morgue. I am 100% certain it’s my brother.”
The inquest was further adjourned last March for six months following a Garda application.
A postmortem carried out by State Pathologist Prof Marie Cassidy confirmed the cause of death as gunshot wounds to the head. Yesterday, Dr Myra Cullinane asked family members if a further 12 months was agreeable to them and they said it was.
The coroner offered her condolences and granted the application, adjourning the inquest until September 3, 2019.
