Gardai investigat­e as injuries of alleged thief are revealed

Badly beaten man photograph­ed in Cork city at the weekend discovered the reality of the incident. The officer added: “Gardai are investigat­ing an incident that occurred in Churchfiel­d, Co Cork, on September 9.

“Shortly after 9pm gardai were called to a public order incident that was ongoing in the area of Gurranbrah­er.

“Upon arriving at the scene they found two injured males who were then brought to Cork University Hospital with what was described as nonlife-threatenin­g injuries.

“Following the incident, gardai were made aware of a burglary that had occurred at a house close by.

“No arrests have been made and gardai are investigat­ing both incidents.”

Sources said the man was one of two alleged robbers who had kicked in the door of a property at Churchfiel­d Greens, Cork city, on Sunday.

A source said: “The two men were inside the house and people became aware there was a burglary.

“As they emerged, attacked the men.”

It is understood the alleged burglars are from Tipperary and Dublin and are suspected to have been in the area to carry out “property crime”.
