HEL’S FURY TO BATTER IRELAND
Weather experts issue warning as killer storm will hit country within days
WEATHER experts have revealed incoming Storm Helene may kill when it batters Ireland on Monday.
It will sweep in across the country before it reaches the UK which has issued a warning of injuries and danger to life.
It came as the US was struck by Hurricane Florence with catastrophic flooding likely to hit the east coast over the coming days.
A Met Eireann spokesman said: “It’s difficult to tell what the effects will be until closer to the time but we urge people
to keep an eye on Met.ie over the weekend. This storm will be nothing like Ophelia, which was a full-blown hurricane.”
A statement on the forecaster’s website says: “Current guidance has the low pressure system moving northeastwards up through the Irish Sea overnight Monday and early on Tuesday, although the exact path is still uncertain.
“A humid spell of wet and windy weather is expected to sweep up over Ireland on Monday night and early Tuesday as a result.
“Current guidance suggests the potential for warning level winds and perhaps rain with the system. There remains some uncertainty in the track of the system.
“Met Eireann forecasters will continue to monitor the situation and issue warnings, as required, closer to the time.”
The deadly storm will hit Ireland before heading to the UK.
Power cuts, large waves, beach material being thrown onto sea fronts and fallen trees are further predicted hazards.
Bridges, airports and ferry services in the affected areas also face closure if winds grow too violent while roads and rail routes might also be cut off.
