LEGEND CANAVAN URGES RED HAND BOARD TO ACT FAST
handed out by the referee.
The ex-tyrone captain, who was playing for Moy, the reigning All-ireland Club IFC champions, sustained serious facial injuries and concussion during the first half of that match, which Edendork won.
“I think that our county board do have to do something,” said another ex-captain Canavan. “I haven’t been speaking to Sean, but to look at him and to look at his injuries was not pleasant viewing. And if that was deliberate, something would need to be done about it.
“I would urge the county board, when they view the video incident of the game, if they find that that incident was deliberate, then they have got to come down hard on it.”
The Tyrone board are believed to retain video footage of all Championship games and last night said: “We would wish to condemn all of the ugly scenes of unwarranted violence. We wish also to extend good wishes to all players who incurred injuries – whether accidentally or otherwise.
“The matters arising will be dealt with in an urgent manner and following due process.”
The Red Hand legend also called on the board to “impose heavy sanctions” on those who came onto the pitch during Friday’s IFC clash between Stewartstown and Strabane but has warned of an agenda against his county.
“I don’t think it’s a fair reflection of what’s going on here in the wider GAA scene in Tyrone,” he stressed.
“I do believe that Tyrone are on the receiving end whenever there is negativity attached to Gaelic games. I would say that there’s an agenda going on in that regard.”
