THUGS RIDDLE HOUSE WITH BULLETS IN GANG SHOOTING

Gardai step up patrols after gun attack terror

- BY NIALL O’CONNOR

CRAZED gunmen blasted a house early yesterday in a shocking gangland attack.

The incident in Ballymun, North Dublin, at 2.30am is linked to a number of previous shootings.

Detectives are inquiring whether the attack is linked to a feud involving two rival factions in the drugs trade.

A Garda spokesman said: “Gardai are investigating a shooting incident in the Shangan area of Ballymun.

“Shots were fired at a house and damage was caused to windows.

“No injuries were reported and investigations are ongoing.”

The attack is the latest in a long list of incidents involving gangs in Ballymun. In July a man was shot in the leg during a double shooting in a broad daylight.

He was treated at the scene and shortly afterwards the windows of house in the Belclare View area were hit with bullets. It is believed in both incidents gunmen fired at the wrong targets.

Gardai in the area have increased armed patrols and a dedicated team of detectives and community policing officers are monitoring the situation. A source said: “This is something that goes on a lot in certain communities but the issue is these young thugs have access to firearms.

“Gardai are gathering information and will be making arrests.”

Anyone with details about the incidents is asked to their local Garda station or call the Confidential Line on 1800666111.
