We’re over our crisis now says goal hero Pog

- BY RICHARD TANNER

PAUL POGBA claims Manchester United have turned the corner after their early-season crisis and warns there is more to come.

United have responded positively to back-toback defeats against Brighton and Tottenham by winning three successive away games.

Pogba, who scored two and made one against Young Boys in midweek, said confidence is improving. “Mentally we are stronger,” the Frenchman said. “It’s a very important win because it was the first game in the Champions League. We got the result we wanted. Maybe the performance could have been better but we got the result and the points.”

Pogba’s double – one a penalty – steadied United after an anxious first half-hour on the artificial pitch at the Stade de Suisse. And he thanked boss Jose Mourinho and his team-mates for allowing him to carry on taking penalties after he had a spot-kick saved by Joe

Hart at Burnley.

He added: “I didn’t have any doubts about taking the penalty. I had the confidence of the players. They let me take it and I should thank them for that. And the manager – he let me take it as well.”

Any tension between Pogba and Mourinho appears to be easing, with the United boss praising his midfielder’s all-round performance and the courage he showed in taking what was a vital spot-kick.

Mourinho said: “I like the player to have the courage to take a penalty after one that he missed. I like that. He missed against Burnley. The next penalty the team has, he is there to take it, to make it 2-0, and to kill the game for us.”

Pogba’s double took his total to four in the first six games of the season and now the

World Cup winner wants more. “If I can score a goal or make an assist for a teammate, that will be great,” he said.
