OAP’S family ‘still haunted by her horror crash death’
Maura Porter THE family of a woman killed in a road accident said they are still haunted by her death each day.
Maura Porter, 70, lost her life 150 yards from her home in Carndonagh, Co Donegal, as she returned from church on December 30, 2013.
An inquest found the mother of two died as a result of misadventure.
But her daughter Davina said they still have unanswered questions.
She added: “She was left on a wet cold road, struggling to breathe with awful injuries and those last memories are just horrific.”
The inquest at Buncrana Courthouse was told it took 50 minutes for an emergency ambulance to reach Mrs Porter.
A garda said driver Austin Stewart, who struck Mrs Porter, had received a mobile call at 17.41pm.
She added she believed the call was made “before or during” the collision.
The inquest heard the vehicle did not have a valid NCT certificate and a fallen Eircom cable on the footpath would have to be considered a factor for the victim crossing the road.
Coroner Dr Denis Mccauley said a pathologist found Mrs Porter suffered catastrophic brain damage.
He added the verdict of misadventure in no way apportioned blame on anyone. Jamie Green
