Mum breast-feeding BABIES born early show better brain development when fed breast milk rather than formula, research has found.
Premature birth has been linked to an increase in problems with learning and thinking skills.
It is also thought to be linked to alterations in brain development and communication cells.
Scientists at Edinburgh University carried out the study, published in the journal Neuroimage.
Researcher Professor James Boardman said: “Mothers of pre-term babies should be supported to provide breast milk while their baby is in neonatal care.
“This may give their children the best chance of healthy brain development.”
