Mcgregor signs up to promote whiskey at his next six fights
CONOR Mcgregor has signed a new six-fight deal with the UFC that will also promote his new whiskey brand.
The contract includes the Dubliner’s fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov next month as rumours the 30-year-old is eyeing retirement, have been emphatically cut down.
And it emerged that the Notorious told his bitter rival when they came face-to-face at their New York press conference on Thursday: “You’re dead, you’re dead, you’re dead. I can see blue lips, blue lips.”
UFC chief Dana White revealed the dad-of-one’s fight with Russian lightweight champion Nurmagomedov is expected to reach 2.5 million pay-perview buys.
This would comfortably eclipse the previous UFC record of 1.6 million buys for Mcgregor’s rematch with Nate Diaz in August 2016.
The bumper deal will also see Mcgregor’s new whiskey, Proper No12, become a sponsor in every event the Crumlin man fights in. Mcgregor was quizzed at Thursday night’s UFC 229 press conference if his new product would be promoted in Las Vegas next month.
“You bet your b ****** s it is,” he confirmed in typical style.
“On the canvas. On the canvas. Like [Nurmagomedov’s] blood will be on the canvas.”
The much-anticipated Sin City showdown could also possibly be attended by world leaders Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
UFC boss White has left the door open for the pair to be ringside on October 6, although he isn’t confident the American President will take up the offer.
He told American celebrity news website TMZ: “They are always invited to the fight. But President Trump told me he won’t come to a fight because would it ruin it for us, so he watches on pay-per-view.”
There may be a better chance Vladimir Putin could attend the showdown as he and Mcgregor have bonded in the past.
The UFC star posed with the Russian President at the World Cup final in Moscow after apparently being invited by the controversial leader.
He captioned the picture on Instagram: “Today I was invited to the World Cup final as a guest of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“This man is one of the greatest leaders of our time and I was honoured to attend such a landmark event alongside him.
“Today was an honour for me Mr. Putin. Thank you and congratulations on an amazing World Cup.”
