Daughter’s abuse claims on Farrow like an Allen script

-

In January 1992 Mia Farrow found explicit photographs of her adopted daughter Soon-yi Previn taken by her then partner Woody Allen. At the time, Previn was a 21-yearold university student.

Allen, who had raised her as his daughter for the past 11 years, was 55.

The discovery sparked a bitter break-up that culminated in claims from their adopted daughter Dylan Farrow, who was then seven, that the director had molested her.

What followed was a sticky web of accusations, investigations, lawsuits, statements and lurid media coverage.

Before this week, the only words spoken by Previn was in August 1992 when she lambasted her adoptive mother through Allen’s publicist.

She accused Farrow of being “violent” and said “the business of him molesting Dylan is so ridiculous I won’t dignify it with a comment.”

Now, more than 25 years on, Previn has launched an extraordinary attack claiming Farrow took “advantage” of the #Metoo movement to leave Allen, her now husband, an outcast.

Previn alleges her mum held her upside down as a child “to get the blood to drain to my head – that blood going to my head would make me smarter.” She also claims she was slapped across the face and spanked with a hairbrush and called “stupid” and “moronic”. Woody Previn is said: so upsetting, “What’s so happened unjust. to

“[Mia] has taken advantage of the

#Metoo movement and paraded Dylan as a victim. And a whole new generation is hearing about it when they shouldn’t.” Dylan Farrow, along with her siblings Ronan Farrow, Matthew Previn, Sascha Previn, Fletcher Previn, Daisy Previn, Isaiah Farrow and Quincy Farrow, condemned the interview siding with their mother. For her part, Dylan has maintained her story never wavering from her claims. Previn’s defence came just months after Allen said he should be a

“poster child” for the #Metoo movement. He said he had been in the film industry for 50 years and never faced claims of sexual harassment or abuse from co-stars. Allen added: “I’ve worked with hundreds of actresses and not a single one — big ones, famous ones, ones starting out — have never ever suggested any kind of impropriety at all. I’ve always had a wonderful record with them.” It may be that no star has come forward but his nerve to suggest such a thing given his family’s claim speaks volumes of Allen’s weirdness. Previn’s attempt to play the victim is lost on me. The truth is Farrow saved her from parent-less poverty and gave her a home and standard of living far above anything she could have ever hoped for in her native South Korea. She repaid her by running off with her mother’s man and now portraying her as the world’s worst and most uncaring human being. Reading her words, I cannot help feel Previn’s words may have been Allen’s best script yet. Your husband may have created some of the most iconic, beloved, breakthrough films of the 20th century but so did Harvey Weinstein.
