ON HER NEW DOCUMENTARY

With Tony Mcchrystal VOGUE Williams has revealed she would love to wipe all traces of a previous relationship off the internet.

The Dubliner, who recently gave birth to son Theodore, tied the knot with Spencer Matthews in a romantic ceremony in Scotland during the summer. In her latest documentary, Vogue: Trial By Social Media, she explores the power of online platforms.

In the show Tony Mcchrystal from Reputation Defender – an online service which helps to clean up images of celebrities and businesses – said they do get calls from famous people.

He added: “Celebrities call us up because they have got pictures of terrible haircuts or even ex-partners they don’t want to be associated with anymore.”

Vogue told him: “Oh my God, could you delete a whole relationship for me? I would actually pay good money.”

The 32-year-old model, who has spoken about the regular trolling she gets on the internet, also delved into the subject of defamation on the internet.

But media and entertainment law specialist Andrea Martin said people can be held to account. She added: “If you damage somebody’s reputation unjustly online you could be held liable for that.” Vogue said she can handle the negative attention online, but added she feels for young people. She said: “I actually hate social media, I think it is just nasty.

“People have turned it into something vicious. “I don’t imagine it is going to go away because you have to weigh up the good with the bad.

“There is a lot of good on social media as well. It’s the bad can be so bad that it almost outshines the good.

“I shouldn’t have to put up with trolling, but I have a thicker skin, I’m 32, I’m able to handle it.

“It’s the younger generation. I couldn’t have dealt with that when I was younger, it really is bad for anyone’s mental health. “I just worry about the kids growing up and their whole life is surrounded by social media. I’m glad I grew up without a phone.”

■ Vogue: Trial By Social Media airs on Wednesday at 9.30pm on RTE Two.
