Second tragic student dies in asthma attack
School tribute to ‘popular’ Darragh, 18
Darragh O’connell A TEENAGER has died after a suspected asthma attack – the second young victim in two days.
Darragh O’connell, 18, was found dead in his Co Limerick home on Saturday morning.
The tragedy followed the passing of 12-year-old Kyle Finnegan after an asthma attack at his house in Dublin.
Yesterday the acting principle at Colaiste Chiarain in Croom informed pupils of Darragh’s death.
Paying tribute, Gerard O’sullivan said: “As a school community we are deeply saddened by this tragic news.
“Our sympathy and thoughts are with his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
“Darragh was an excellent student who enjoyed the company and support of a great group of friends. He will be greatly missed.”
In a post on the school’s social media sites, Mr O’sullivan said the school was providing counselling over the sixth form student’s death.
He advised parents to listen to their children if they wish to express their feelings or ask questions about the tragedy.
Mr O’sullivan added: “We have published a link on our
CO LIMERICK YESTERDAY
website to an information sheet on how best to support your son/daughter during this difficult time.
“Although classes will continue as usual, I anticipate the next few days will be difficult for everyone.
“We are aware some students may need additional support at this difficult time.”
The remains of Darragh will repose at his home on Greenfields Road, Rosbrien, from noon today.
Removal will take place to Our Lady Of Lourdes Church tomorrow for 11am Requiem Mass followed by burial at Castlemungret Cemetery.
Darragh is survived by his parents Adrian and Yvonne and sister Vicky.
