Overturned lorry sparks chaos with drivers in gridlock for hours
AN overturned truck sparked traffic chaos yesterday leaving drivers stuck in gridlock for hours.
Emergency services were tasked to the scene of the lorry crash on the N7 at around 2.30pm.
However, the route did not fully open until almost five hours later after 7pm.
Lanes on both sides between junction 4 and junction 5 were closed for a period of time, leaving motorists stuck with delays of up to 60 minutes on the busy M50.
Earlier, AA Roadwatch said: “Traffic is reduced to one lane on the N7 northbound between J5 Athgoe and J4 Rathcoole as emergency services deal with an overturned truck. Delays on approach are back to J6 Castlewarden. Southbound
YESTERDAY
traffic is also reduced to one lane as a crane is in situ to remove the truck and delays are tailing back to J3 Citywest. Avoid this route or expect delays.”
Traffic was reduced to one lane southbound as the crane removed the truck but it was after 7pm when the lane reopened.
Traffic experts Live Drive advised drivers to avoid the M50 if possible.
They said: “Incident still in place on the N7 inbound before J4 Rathcoole. Delays still back J9 Naas North and Outbound to clear heavy still from the M50. Extra volume on the N81 and N4 this evening as a result.”
It is believed the overturned truck was the only accident causing delays.
A broken-down coach on the N7 between Kingswood and Citywest was cleared without issue.
