Aleading child online safety expert has urged parents to pay attention to their kids’ online activity as research has revealed more than 30% of children talk to a stranger online every week. According to a recent study by Cyber Safe Ireland, 32% of children talk to a stranger online every week, yet 15% report that they rarely, if ever, talk to their parents about online safety.

Online Safety expert Anne Mccormack said the figures highlight the importance of parents regularly discussing their children’s online usage.

The 44-year-old told Irish Daily Mirror: “That is a lot. “All of that should be part of conversation between parents and young people.” Addressing the latter figure she added: “But 85% do then talk to their parents which is great.

“And I think that more and more parents are becoming aware of the need to have those conversations, which is really good.

“But it would be good if 100% children were having those conversations about INITIATIVE
