his coaching badges. Yorke said: “I applied for the job before Brucie, didn’t even get a response let alone an interview.

“Having played there for 10 years I felt I knew how I could do the job. I made it public I was interested but as soon as he got it I backed off as I’ve got respect for him as a man and a manager.

“But I had been upset by Remi Garde, Tim Sherwood, Alex Mcleish as none of them seemed suited to the job.

“These guys have been given the opportunity with very little knowledge or experience of the situation.

“But I keep coming up short, people think I’m still young but I’ve been round the block and I’m bloody 47!

“Other people get chances. I speak to others in the game and it’s clearly not right. It’s evident there’s a barrier and people don’t speak out enough.

“The more I talk to people, I came across Sol Campbell in the last week or so, and he was interviewed for Oxford and Grimsby, with his profile you think they’d snap him up but at least he got an interview.

“Because of the kind of relationship I had with the fans, I know what it takes. Lampard

BOLTON boss Phil Parkinson has defended his tactics, insisting they are not negative. Bolton lost 2-0 at Stoke in midweek after Parkinson (below) told his players to sit back but the boss feels it was the right approach. “Teams that had played Stoke recently had let them have the ball at the back and their crowd got frustrated,” he said.

“We decided to start the game like that. It wasn’t negative. But then we conceded and it left us flat.” Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray is confident his players will bounce back from their first home defeat. He said: “They’re a great set of lads and they’ll be ready to go on Saturday.” and Gerrard got jobs. What have they done more than me?

“I’ve got the qualifications. I’ve spoken to Gareth Southgate, I played with him at Villa, and he went into management without qualifications, anything. The same with Roy Keane.

“I have nothing against Gareth at all, but at least they took a chance with him.

“Andy Cole refused to do his badges because he says to me: ‘Dwight, you ain’t getting nowhere.’

“Ask me why I wouldn’t get an interview for Villa?

“I’m looking at Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Joey Barton and Lee Bowyer. Then when it comes to me I keep being told: ‘Dwight, you need more experience’.” NEIL HARRIS fears Aston Villa will be tougher opponents today without Steve Bruce at the helm.

Bruce’s two-year reign at Villa Park was ended on Wednesday after a 3-3 draw with bottom club Preston left them with just one win in 10 games.

Youth coach Kevin Macdonald will be in charge when Villa visit Millwall in the Championship today.

Bruce won promotion to the top flight four times but that wasn’t enough to save his job. And Lions boss

Harris (below) says today’s game now becomes a tougher task. Harris, whose side drew 2-2 at Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, said: “Look at Steve Bruce – football is a crazy world. Now the caretaker manager comes in and you have to wonder what team he is going to pick, what personnel he has available. We don’t know.

“Villa are a top side with some of the best players in the league.

“You feel for Steve because he is a legend in the game and a good manager, as he has proved over the years. He will be back.

“I was at Villa Park on Tuesday and saw a very impressive first-half performance where they could have scored seven or eight goals. They lost their way in the second half after a debatable penalty.”

Villa will take the international break to consider a shortlist of candidates including Thierry Henry, Dean Smith and John Terry.
