- BY OLIVIA KELLEHER

A MOTHER of two charged with murder told gardai: “I did not kill my husband – I stabbed him twice, not 28 times.”

Timmy Foley, 44, died from stab wounds at a house in Macroom, Co Cork, at about 1.55am on Monday.

He was treated by paramedics before being pronounced dead at the scene at Dan Corkery Place.

Yesterday, Rita O’driscoll, 46, of Bridge Street, Bandon, Co Cork, appeared before Macroom District Court charged with his murder between October 7 and 8.

Detective Sgt Derek Mulcahy gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution in the case.

He said when Ms Driscoll was charged under caution at Bandon Garda station she told officers she didn’t kill him but had stabbed him twice.

Ruth O’driscoll, who was dressed in dark clothing, did not speak during the brief hearing yesterday.

She was arrested on Monday evening.

Her solicitor Pat Horan requested she receive psychiatric assistance during her time in Limerick Prison.

Judge Mary Dorgan heard while the accused was in custody her landlord had reportedly boarded up her rental property rendering her Timmy Foley, 44 two adult children homeless. Their belongings are still in the house.

It is understood she is asking the relevant authorities to intervene in the matter so emergency accommodation can be found for them.

Mr Horan said his client was a “loving mother”.

He added a plea of not guilty will be entered at a later date.

Judge Dorgan granted free legal aid in the case and directed the relevant psychiatric report be obtained.

She will appear before Macroom District Court again on October 17.

Bail in the case will decided at the High Court.

Inspector Brian Murphy asked all those involved in the case to continue supporting gardai and to bring the matter to a proper conclusion.

Mr Foley had lived in Macroom in the region of a year and was a carer for his brother Jason who incurred a brain injury following an assault. be
