DREAM GREEN GRASS OF HOME

Pitch is so good Giggs weighed up Spanish ‘turf war’

- BY SIMON BIRD @Simonbird_

RYAN GIGGS wants his kids to raise the roof tonight against Spain.

The Wales boss brings his side back to the Principality Stadium for the first time in six years to face Luis Enrique’s starstudded line-up.

And Giggs has asked for the stadium roof to be closed to intensify an atmosphere that will already be red-hot with 50,000 tickets sold.

The last time Wales played in the national stadium was 2012. The FA of Wales took a hit in revenue to play in the tight stands of Cardiff City’s ground for home games – and the priceless pay-off was qualification for Euro 2016. But Giggs now wants his lads to fill the Principality and get used to big stadia. The Manchester United legend conceded the pitch is so good, he considered letting the grass grow to hamper Spain’s passing game.

He said: “It is something extra special to have the roof closed. That doesn’t happen often. I was excited to play here.

“It looks like over 50,000 will be watching which is great. I have had happy memories here. Great stadium, middle of the city, view from every seat and the pitch is very good... maybe too good! I thought about growing the grass for

Spain.”

Wales skipper

Gunter) said: “It is impressive. The roof was open when we came in to train, then it was closed.

“We trained with it closed and it will be for the game. It was quite warm and the atmosphere changes – it feels different, intense. It is something to enjoy.”

Giggs (below in training yesterday) has a host of kids at his disposal – although main man Gareth Bale will be missing
