Jeff really Keane on assistant

- BY PAUL O’HEHIR

ROY KEANE has got Jeff Hendrick’s seal of approval after a series of pep talks helped restore the midfielder’s confidence.

Assistant boss Keane may not be everyone’s cup of tea and he had a spectacular bust-up with Harry Arter in the summer.

A plaster has been placed over their particular relationship but Hendrick has nothing but admiration for the former Ireland and Manchester United captain.

Hendrick has struggled to scale the lofty heights he set with his impressive Euro 2016 finals performances.

But he revealed how one-on-one chats with midfield legend Keane has him in the right frame of mind to kick on.

Hendrick said: “After the last game against Wales, there were a few clips that I didn’t do well in. So I sat down with Roy and he talked me through it, and it really helped me. I tried to put what he said into practice in the Poland game.

“I don’t know if it was the same with a few other players or the team, but I think we performed better.

“I’ll keep sitting down with him and picking his brain. He played in the same position that I do, so it’s always good to do that.

“Whenever any of the coaching staff sit down and go through certain bits, it’s up to us to take it all on-board.

“I expect a lot from myself going into games and I haven’t been happy with a lot of my performances. I’m trying to put that right.”
