‘CANNABIS LACED CHOCS’ SENT TO HOTEL
Two workers extremely sick after eating sweets
GARDAI are hunting a suspect who sent chocolates believed to have been laced with cannabis to staff at a hotel.
Two people, one of whom collapsed, became “extremely sick” after eating the contaminated sweets which were to delivered to the White Sands in Portmarnock.
An innocent taxi man unwittingly brought the Ferrero Rocher chocolates to the hotel.
A source said: “They had to attend hospital
after becoming extremely sick claiming the chocolates had been contaminated with cannabis.”
A spokesman for the hotel said: “Chocolates were delivered and were ingested by staff.” A duty manager added: “It has been a very stressful time for staff and we are not commenting further.”
Gardai have seized the remaining chocolates and have taken them for analysis.
A source said their inquiries will centre on the innocent cabbie who brought the sweets to the hotel on October 9.
He was hired in Donnycarney, North Dublin, and CCTV footage could prove to be decisive in identifying the culprit.
A source said: “Two people have reacted badly after they unwittingly consumed these contaminated chocolates.
“It was a very harrowing time for those who fell ill and needed hospital treatment.
“Officers will be very keen to find out who did this and bring them before the courts.” The 58-room four-star White Sands is well known in Dublin and very popular with tourists and locals alike.
It boasts spectacular views across Portmarnock beach to Howth and the Dublin mountains.
A source last night told the Irish Mirror: “Staff are in shock. It’s a family-run hotel, everyone is horrified after what happened to their colleagues.
“It’s a lovely hotel, very well run, this has come as a huge shock to everyone.”
