RACIST AIRHEAD
A MAN was filmed racially abusing a 77-year-old woman on a plane as it prepared to take off to London Stansted airport from Barcelona.
The unidentified male is seen calling a Windrush generation pensioner known only as Mrs Gayle a “black b ***** d” in the mobile phone footage, which has been viewed more than 2.5 million times on Facebook.
He also threatens to push her to another seat on the Ryanair plane and shouts “don’t talk to me in a foreign language, you stupid ugly cow” after she speaks to him in English.
A passenger sitting in the row behind intervenes during the abuse, telling the man to stop it. Cabin crew eventually move Mrs Gayle to another seat despite her not being the passenger causing trouble.
Her daughter, 53, revealed she had taken her away for a few days’ break to cheer her up on the anniversary of her husband’s death.
She said she now fears her mother, who she asked only to be identified by her last name, will never fly again.
She said: “My parents were married for over 50 years. She’s been feeling really down and depressed, so I thought the trip would raise her spirits.
“The underlying reason behind the man’s abusive behaviour comes down to the fact that my mum is a black woman and he didn’t want her sitting next to him – he says it in the video.”
The daughter, who also did not want to be named, added: “Mum’s really feeling upset and very stressed about this situation, on top of the grief that she’s already experiencing.”
Ryanair said in a statement: “We operate strict guidelines for disruptive passengers and we will not tolerate unruly behaviour like this. We will be taking this matter further and disruptive or abusive behaviour like this will result in passengers being banned from travel.”
Essex Police said yesterday it was investigating the incident.
