1-11 SCOTSTOWN hit two goals in the last five minutes to kill off four-in a-row Fermanagh champions Derrygonnelly in Clones.

There was nothing to separate the sides at halftime with a cool Conall Jones penalty helping the Erne men to come in level at 1-6 to 0-9.

Within seconds of the restart, Monaghan star Kieran Hughes drilled over a trademark score with the outside of the foot to kickstart the Scotstown challenge.

MICK Mccann kicked the winner and picked up the trophy yesterday at a dour Antrim final at a blustery Ahoghill.

It was just 0-2 apiece at halftime as Michael Magill and Tomas Mccann scores cancelled out a Kevin Small brace for Creggan and it continued in the same tone until Mccann (left) sealed a fifth title for Cargin. DERRY FOOTBALL FINAL

0-12 MIDFIELDER Niall Holly believes Eoghan Rua’s second Derry County title was even sweeter than the first.

Barry Daly’s 11th minute goal was the game’s critical score as Eoghan Rua claimed their first title since 2010 and Holly (below), who was superb in midfield, believes the Coleraine team is now mature enough to appreciate the victory.

“I’m just delighted, it’s been a long time since 2010 and there have been a lot of disappointing days in between,” scores without reply to open up a significant lead.

A brace apiece from the Jones brothers Garvan and Conall kept Derrygonnelly within striking distance but Scotstown kept their noses in front and applied the coup de grace in a frantic finale.

Sub Ross Mckenna stepped inside his man and buired the ball into the net with three minutes left.

On the stroke of full time Damien Mcardle rattled in Scotstown’s second goal to seal a date with Down champions Burren in the quarter-final.

said Holly (below). “We thought when we won our first we might push on but we didn’t and we are going to enjoy this for a long time.

“It does make it that bit sweeter, you appreciate it more. When you win your first, you think they are going to come along like buses but they don’t so you have to savour them.”
