30 schools to get building safety check

- BY CHRIS HUGHES Defence and Security Editor

THE Department of Education is set to check 30 schools over fears they are structurally unsafe.

The news comes after “significant structual issues” were discovered at Ardgillan Community College in Balbriggan, Co Dublin.

The department has started legal proceedings against Tyrone-based Western Building Systems in relation to four schools that were not named.

It will check structures built by WBS between 2008 and 2013.

A spokesman said the minister’s “number one priority” was the safety and welfare of students and staff. AFTER journalist Jamal Khashoggi was murdered in a consulate, one of the suspected killers left the building in the dead man’s clothes to make it appear he was still alive, it is alleged.

CCTV footage apparently shows Saudi operative Mustafa al-madani, 57, in the 59-year-old’s shirt, jacket and trousers and wearing a false beard and glasses to look more like him.

Authorities in Turkey, where the murder was carried out, released the images and said they prove the killing and alleged cover-up were planned.

A Turkish official reportedly said: “His clothes were probably still warm when Madani put them on.”

Saudi Arabia’s original response to questions about what happened to Mr Khashoggi after he entered the Saudi consulate was that he definitely left the premises alive.

The footage shows Madani – one of the alleged 15-strong hit squad – going into the front of the building in Istanbul on October 2 at 11.03am.

He had on a blue and white checked top, trainers and is clean shaven. He is thought to have been alongside an alleged accomplice, Saudi’s forensic medicine chief Salah al-tubaiqi.

Mr Khashoggi, who was a Saudi, is seen walking into the building at 1.14pm.

He had made an appointment with the consulate to pick up wedding documents at this time. It is believed he was killed and dismembered on the property.

At 2.52pm the footage seemingly shows Madani leaving the back of building while Mr Khashoggi’s worried fiancee waited for the journalist at the front.

Madani was wearing Mr Khashoggi’s clothes. But the ploy to throw investigators off the scent was not as clever as it could have been – Madani was wearing the same trainers as when he entered the building. And he has a full head of hair, whereas Mr Khashoggi was balding. As Madani left the consulate building he was accompanied by a man wearing a hoodie and a shirt with hoops on, and was carrying a plastic bag.

It is thought the bag contained the clothes Madani had been wearing on his arrival.

Footage shows the two men taking a taxi near to the city’s Sultan Ahmed Mosque. They are seen striding along shortly after 4pm, by now Madani seems to be carrying Mr Khashoggi’s jacket. Madani and the other man enter a public toilet, emerging again at 4.22pm. Madani is now in the clothes
