Gran, 79, attacked and robbed outside her front door

- BY TREVOR QUINN

THE family of a 79-year-old woman who was robbed and attacked outside her front door demanded justice yesterday.

Marie Bullman was assaulted at her home in Gurranabraher, Cork city, after visiting her cancer-stricken brother.

The grandmother-of-12 fell on her pelvis and fractured three ribs during the attack. Ms Bullman’s daughter Yvonne Yellop said her mum finally got a bed in Cork University Hospital yesterday after waiting 17 hours on a trolley.

She added: “She’s in terrible pain. She was just putting her key into the front door and she said she could hear steps behind her, next thing she just felt him pushing her to the ground and he took her bag and ran.” Witness Paul Horgan told Cork’s Neil Prenderville show about the attack on the OAP, who lives alone.

He watched a car moving at high speed trying to manoeuvre between a taxi and lamp post and then saw a man run after it and jump in before it took off in the direction of Gurranabraher Garda station. Ms Yellop said: “They had a car waiting and they drove off. My uncle chased them but they were too fast.

“Whatever way he pushed her she went down face-first.”

Asked how that made her feel, Yvonne said: “Angry. We’re fuming with it.”

She added: “The guards have the reg of the car so we’re only hoping that they will catch him.”
