Mcgregor and Khabib banned over cage row

- BY DONAGH CORBY

CONOR Mcgregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov have both been indefinitely suspended following their brawl earlier this month.

The pair had been slapped with temporary bans following UFC 229 on October 6 where the Russian handed the Irishman a drubbing.

But now the Nevada State Athletic Commission say the fighters have been banned until further notice.

They will have to appear in person before the body later in December.

Khabib, 30, was reportedly the “catalyst for the ensuing chaos” when he jumped over the cage to attack Mcgregor’s team-mate Dillon Danis at the end of the contest. He looks set to land a longer ban than Mcgregor, also 30, when the final decision is made.

A motion was also passed to release half of Khabib’s €1,755,290 purse, which had been withheld.

The Dubliner got his fee for the event, which drew the biggest pay-per-view buy-rate in mixed martial arts history. Chaos ensues at end of fight

After Khabib’s assault on Danis, Mcgregor was then attacked by two members of his rival’s team although subsequent footage showed the Notorious may have acted provocatively.

Meanwhile the Russian has hinted he may follow Mcgregor’s footsteps by fighting undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. But if he does get a longer suspension, the bout would have to take place outside Nevada.

The retired boxing star has not competed outside of Las Vegas in 13 years, so that could be one of many stumbling blocks.

UFC president Dana White has said the bout is unlikely to take place, telling ESPN: “Don’t pay attention to it. Mayweather team has not approached us at all. “Khabib is under contract with us. We haven’t talked to anybody from the Mayweather team.”
