HARRY CAN MAKE PAT’S WIN PRIZES
LEAGUE OF IRELAND HARRY KENNY has been tasked with challenging for trophies next season after landing the St Pat’s job last night.
Mirror Sport had exclusively revealed that the ex-bray Wanderers boss was the preferred candidate for the vacant post.
A number of interested parties were interviewed after Buckley resigned in the wake of a 3-1 home defeat to a youthful Bohemians side last month.
But a deal to appoint Kenny at Richmond Park reached an advanced stage and was accelerated yesterday.
Ger O’brien (inset) – in caretaker charge of late – will be Kenny’s assistant manager next season and will continue as the club’s director of football.
He will also take the team for Friday’s final game of the season at home to a Derry City side in crisis.
Kenny, 56, knows the
Inchicore club well as he was Buckley’s assistant when they won the League title in 2013.
“I’m absolutely honoured to be appointed,” he said last night. “During my playing career in the League of Ireland, Pat’s were always a club I admired.
“And having coached at the club in 2013, in a season which we won the league title, I have a great fondness for the club.
“It’s a privilege to be named manager and I look forward to getting going and working with the players as we plan and prepare ahead of the new season.”
Kenny (above) revealed he is leaving his FAI post of 10 years, where he has been working with the ETB player development
course. Saints chairman and owner Garrett Kelleher said: “We’re delighted to have Harry back. We expect to be back challenging at the top end of the table in 2019.”
