- By niall o’connor

THE shell-shocked wife of killer Mark Hennessy has fled Ireland to restart her life.

Distraught Nicole has returned to her family in Wales along with her two infant children after the kidnap and murder of Jastine Valdez. A source said: “She had no

idea that her husband was capable of the horrific crime he committed.

“There had been a steady decline in their marriage though because of Hennessy’s drinking and drug taking.

“Her world literally fell asunder when she was told of what he did and she was left just completely devastated.

“Her priority is now to rebuild the lives of her two children, she cannot bear to bring them up in the country where this tragedy happened.”

Nicole vanished from the family home at Woodlawn Park, Bray, Co Wicklow, recently seeking solace with her family in her native Wales.

The Irish Mirror has previously Hennessy was on a drug and alcohol-fuelled binge for a number of days before he committed the atrocity in May.

He was spotted in pubs in Shankill and Bray in the hours beforehand, consuming drugs and drink.

Hennessy then travelled from the general Bray area while deranged in a haze of cocaine to Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, where he spotted Jastine.

He grabbed the 24-yearold and put her in a car

– speeding down a busy motorway, spotted by drivers as the young Filipino woman frantically begged for help. He strangled the accountancy student to death and dumped her body in a lonely country laneway.

The next day brave gardai confronted the man in Cherrywood Industrial Estate where he was shot dead by a garda who, allegedly, believed the lunatic was killing Jastine.

In the moments before he was confronted he called Nicole and declared: “I’ve done something awful.”

Jastine’s body was discovrevealed ered the next day. Gardai are continuing to investigate the horror incident for a coroner’s case and the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission are probing the shooting.

Specialist gardai helped Nicole to try and deal with the trauma of the event but sources have said the grief was such that she decided to leave Ireland.

One added: “There was a dedicated group of gardai who were helping the family but Nicole just felt she needed to get out of Ireland.

“She needed to leave. There are so many victims in this case, not just Jastine and her family – he has affected dozens of people.”
