Bank Holiday weekend to bring first flurry of winter
THE first winter snow could fall this weekend as temperatures plummet below zero.
Frosty conditions are set to sweep across the north, with Donegal, Antrim and Tyrone set to see some light “dusting” as it drops to -3C tonight.
But the white stuff is only expected to hit the higher land, with roads and streets unlikely to be affected. Met Eireann forecaster John Eagleton said: “It has gotten colder, the winds are coming straight northerly down. “The British are talking about snow showers up in Scotland and Northern Ireland. The showers and the core overnight temperatures will drop down to zero. I think it could happen – but it’s not going to be a problem.”
The forecaster predicts breezy, dry temperatures over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Temperatures are set to range between 7C and 10C but cold overnight, with some set to drop to -2C. A Sunday forecast from Met Eireann stated: “Most parts dry and fine with good sunshine, after a frosty start.
“A few showers will drift into eastern coastal districts, due to the light onshore northeast breeze. Top temperatures of 7 to 10 C, but not feeling as cold as previous days, due to more prolonged sunshine and mainly light breezes.
“Temperatures will drop away fairly quickly after dark, with frost forming in the clear, near calm conditions and some icy patches are expected.”
