DWYER TURNS MR NICE AS APPEAL BID LOOMS Prison sources reveal psycho killer’s change in behaviour

- BY EMMA MCMENAMY

SADISTIC killer Graham Dwyer has become “Mr Nice” behind bars in a bid to impress prison staff and fellow inmates ahead of a legal case.

The 45-year-old psycho, serving a life sentence for the murder of childminder Elaine O’hara, has gone from being one of the most cocky prisoners to one of the best behaved on the G2 wing of the Midlands Prison in Portlaoise.

A source claimed Dwyer has changed his ways in recent weeks with the outcome of his legal fight against the State and the Garda Commissioner into Ireland’s data retention laws due soon.

The source said: “He was over confident to the point of annoying the other inmates.

“He used to walk around acting like he owned the place.

“He has done a complete turnaround recently though and has become Mr Nice.

“He’s become very charming, friendly and nice to everyone.

“His sudden change in behaviour has left many scratching their heads as to what he’s up to.

“The only explanation people can think of is that he is in good form and trying to be on his best behaviour with the prospect of his appeal date being set soon.

“He’s waiting to hear if he has been successful in his fight against the State and the Garda Commissioner into Ireland’s data retention laws which he hopes to use in his appeal case.

“He has been going to school, working out in the gym and walking around the yard on his own after dinner.”

In February, Dwyer asked the High Court to strike down the law that allowed his telephone records to go before the jury during his trial for murder.

He claims the law is unconstitutional and breaches EU legislation, including his right to privacy.

Dwyer brought the challenge against the law that allowed gardai investigating Ms O’hara’s death to obtain and use certain data, including phone records, as evidence against him.

The killer was handed a mandatory life sentence in front of a packed court in March 2015.

The outcome of the action will have an effect on his appeal against his conviction, which has yet to be heard.

Former architect Dwyer, of Kerrymount Close, Foxrock, Dublin, denied stabbing 36-year-old Elaine to death for his own sexual pleasure on August 22, 2012.

At the trial at the Criminal Courts of Justice Judge Tony Hunt gave a scathing rebuke to this “very dangerous man” during the sentence hearing, which lasted just over an hour.
