Burns fright to make me ditch Ash splash

- FROM NEIL SQUIRES IN VILAMOURA

CHRIS ASHTON is considering ditching his trademark Ash Splash try celebration if he is recalled by England during the autumn internationals.

Bath’s Freddie Burns had the ball knocked out of his grasp (below) when he showboated prematurely after crossing the try line against

Toulouse in the

European

Champions Cup.

Ashton said:

“Poor Freddie. I felt so bad for him.

Just put it down over the line, or on it actually. That’s what you do, isn’t it?

“I did it for Sale at the weekend but that wasn’t the plan so we’ll see.”

Ashton’s hat-trick on his Sale debut has taken him into England camp in high spirits in what is his second coming as a Test player having last worn the Red Rose four years ago.

“I’ve never stopped fighting or wanting to be here,” he said. “There are very few lads that are here from when I first came in. Dylan Hartley? Ben Youngs? Not many at all.

“The coaches have changed, everything has changed so it is completely new for me.

“I like that. I have had a few new clubs now and I know what that is like and how to approach it. It is a nice place to be.”

Ashton took a spectacular tumble at England’s Algarve training camp when he was yanked backwards through the air by the elastic resistance cord he was attached to in a session run by new sprint coach Jason Dodoo.

Alex Lozowski returned to England to appeal the two-week ban which ruled him out of the game against South Africa next week.
