Weld has a Masaff chance

-

DERMOT WELD can continue his strong finish to the season by taking the Group 3 Eyrefield Stakes at Leopardstown this afternoon.

The Weld-trained Masaff, the mount of Declan Mcdonagh, is impossible to look past as he bids to land the final pattern race of the 2018 Irish flat season.

Masaff made a bright start to his career when winning a maiden at this track in June but he did even better on his return from a three month break here last month.

On that occasion, Masaff lost his unbeaten record but he ran an excellent race to finish third to the lively classic contender Madhmoon.

This isn’t at all as strong a race which means the Weld horse should have little difficulty taking care of last week’s Killavullan Stakes second Guaranteed.

The classy Imaging, who has already won at Stakes level this season, could also strike for Weld and Mcdonagh in the Listed Knockaire Stakes.

He would probably prefer slightly slower ground but he is worth taking a chance on as he is a colt who is still open to plenty of progress.

Imaging will need to improve on his fifth in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes earlier this month but that was his first outing since early May so he should now do much better.

Also his stylish Tetrarch Stakes win and his easy defeat of Ship Of Dreams at Cork earlier in the season both represent impressive efforts.
