We’ve got our Liverpool back

KLOPP WARNS PREM RIVALS THAT REDS HAVE RETURNED TO PEAK OF LAST SEASON

- BY DAVID MADDOCK

JURGEN KLOPP has a chilling message for the rest of the Premier League: “I’ve got my old Liverpool back.”

The Reds boss admitted only last week that he did not know when the free-flowing football Liverpool played last season would return.

But after their 4-0 drubbing of Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League at Anfield in midweek, Klopp believes they are almost back to their scintillating best.

Asked if they were on the way back, he said: “Yes. We scored three goals from counter-pressing situations.”

Fab three Sadio Mane,

Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah all found the net and Xherdan Shaqiri (above) also played a key role.

Klopp went on: “The first goal was probably the first counter-press situation of Shaq’s life! We got the ball back, passed it, wonderful goal. We filled the box which was also different to other games. Second one, we won it back, Gini (Wijnaldum) chipped it to Shaq, ball in and ‘bam’. The fourth one for sure was a counterpress situation with Gini in front of the defender and passing into the box.”

Klopp believes that ability to hit opponents with ruthless efficiency is key to his side’s best form.

And he will ask them to step up again against Cardiff at Anfield today as they look to keep tabs on Manchester City at the top of the table.
