‘MARTIAL’S A DIVER’
Furious Silva accuses United striker Ant of cheating for penalty
FURIOUS Marco Silva accused Anthony Martial of cheating to win the penalty that gave Manchester
United the platform for victory.
Martial went down under a challenge from Idrissa Gueye and Everton boss
Silva (right) raged:
“It was not a penalty – clearly the player dived. It leaves a bad sensation. I told the players at half-time it was not a fair result. I know the referee can make
mistakes, but in that moment it is clear it’s no penalty.”
Paul Pogba saw his spot-kick saved by Jordan Pickford but stabbed home the rebound.
Martial put United 2-0 ahead with a stunning curler early in the second half and, though Gylfi Sigurdsson pulled one back for Everton with a more clear-cut penalty, United hung on.
“The referee made things easier for them,” Silva aded.
“The penalty made a big impact on the match and I think all of you have the same opinion as me – we didn’t deserve that.
“It changed the game. You are then more exposed because you have to take more risks.”
Old Trafford boss Jose Mourinho said it was the most complete performance of the season so far for United, watched by members of the boys’ team (above) trapped in a Thailand cave for more than a fortnight.
But he said. “We’re not as rocksolid as I would like, and we don’t have that killer instinct I would like. Some teams have three chances and score three goals. Some teams without the ball can resist and keep a clean sheet.
“For us right now it is is almost impossible to keep a clean sheet even with our phenomenal goalkeeper. And in the last nine matches between Lukaku and Rashford they have scored one goal if I am not wrong.”
