Gers loss a sore one to take!

DONS’ WIN AT HAMPDEN RUINED A DERBY DREAM FOR CELTS MIDFIELDER MCGREGOR

-

CALLUM MCGREGOR admits he had his heart set on a Betfed Cup Old Firm showdown – but he’ll be happy to stockpile more silverware by keeping up the Hoops’ Hampden hoodoo over Aberdeen.

The Parkhead playmaker was gutted Rangers getting dumped by the Dons on Sunday has sunk the chances of setting up a derby cup final clash for the first time since 2011.

But Celtic are determined to make it seven trophies out of seven under Brendan Rodgers (right) and Mcgregor is out for a repeat of the Invincibles campaign when the champions came out on top against Aberdeen in both cup competitions.

He said: “We’ve not had an Old Firm final for a good few years so it would have been incredible to be involved in that.

“It’s Aberdeen again and it’s a tough game. We have a good record against them in finals in recent years. It’s great to call on that experience. You always remember those results and it can give you and edge going in to the next one.

“The deserve to be in the final and on their day they are a match for anyone.

“But we’ve been there before and we’ve managed to win leagues and cups along the way, so hopefully we can get another one.

“We have to prepare properly to arrive at that game with confidence to make sure we get the job done.”

Mcgregor reckons

Celtic have silenced the snipers and showed they rise to the occasion.

The Hoops midfielder is eyeing a fifth straight final under

Rodgers after hammering Hearts to set up a Betfred Cup showdown with Aberdeen next month.

And he hailed super subs Ryan Christie and Scott Sinclair for inspiring Celts to another Hampden final.

Mcgregor said: “It shows the strength in depth. You look at the quality we still have on the bench and there are guys who can make a real impact.

“The two subs on Sunday were outstanding. Scott and Ryan really lifted us. Huge credit to them.”

Mcgregor insisted there will be no let up at Dens Park tomorrow night. He said: “There’s no time to relax. It’s 60 games a season at Celtic and it’s another important one on Wednesday. “We have to be ready.”
