Murder trial is told pair knifed Irish gran to death

- BY LIAM DOTSON

Hannah Leonard TWO people knifed an Irish gran to death after a night of drinking, a court heard yesterday.

Lucy Casey, 43, and James Whitaker, 29, deny stabbing 55-year-old Hannah Leonard in the face, neck, chest and stomach on February 5.

Casey’s blood was allegedly found on the kitchen knife used in the attack and she left her jacket at the scene with her ID in the pocket, the Old Bailey in London heard yesterday.

Ms Leonard’s body was only discovered four days later when it was spotted by a painter working outside her flat in Camden, North London.

She moved to the city from Cork in the 1980s.

Prosecutor Sarah Whitehouse said: “Casey and Whitaker had been out drinking with her and all three returned to Ms Leonard’s flat – only two of them ever left.

“They left her dead, or dying, on her kitchen floor.

“There are only three eye witnesses as to what happened. One of them is dead – the other two are on trial for her murder.

“There does not appear to be any dispute Ms Leonard was killed while she was in their company.

“The question for you to consider is what part, if any, each of them played in the attack which killed Hannah Leonard.”

The trial continues.
