Books puzzle top machines

COMPUTERS can’t match human expertise in accurately translating literary text, a study has found.

Boffins at Dublin City University said machines prefer working from scratch rather than fixing already altered texts.

Dr Joss Moorkens, who carried out the study, said: “The limitations of machine translation can be exposed when processing longer, creative sentences typically found in a literary novel, for example.”
