‘Gay men do not join ISIS’
A MAN jailed for 10 years for planning terror attacks in Belgium has been freed on appeal after a court heard he was gay and so could not be a member of ISIS.
The 33-year-old man from Antwerp, who can only be referred to as Youssef I, was alleged to have radicalised jihadists in Belgium and helped them travel from Turkey to Syria.
But an appeal court heard he had been in a relationship with a man since 2013 and that they planned to marry.
Lawyer Veerle Vanneuville said: “Why would he join IS, a group that throws homosexuals from apartment buildings?”
