Fire crews in frightfully busy night
Fire in Dublin HALLOWEEN was the busiest night of the year for firefighters across the country.
More than 900 calls were made in the Leinster area alone.
The entire Dublin Fire Brigade fleet was in operation on Wednesday evening.
Acting assistant chief fire officer Greg O’dwyer said the most common callouts were bonfires and fire or firework-related injuries.
He said in one instance in the capital, cars were driven into a bonfire.
But he added anti-social behaviour is decreasing and the number of injuries are going down thanks to organised events by local authorities and work by gardai in the run-up to Halloween this year.
Mr O’dwyer said: “I can’t stress how positive it is to have the organised events. It keeps people in a safe environment.”
Trick-or-treaters had to wrap up warm and look spooky at the same time as temperatures plummeted to below freezing in some areas.
