GAVIN James has revealed he would love to write new songs for Westlife.

The 27-year-old Dublin singer is famous for his folky hits Nervous and Bitter Pill but said he’d like to try his hand at pop.

It is rumoured Ed Sheeran has penned new material for Westlife’s comeback and Gavin said he’d happily do the same.

He told the Irish Mirror: “It would be class. I’d love to because the songs are proper pop. I’d have to sit down with them and delve into it.” Last week the musician released his hotly-anticipated second album Only Ticket Homel.

He said: “The first record was quite melancholic, it was about a break-up.

“The years that passed since have been constant touring. That’s why it’s called Only Ticket Home.”

Gavin is headlining the New Year’s Festival in Dublin and will ring in 2019 at the 3Countdown Concert on Custom House Quay.

Tickets, priced €29.90, go on sale on Monday at 9am.
