Church facing €70,000 bill for vandalism

A CHURCH is facing a bill of up to €70,000 after vandals smashed more than 100 panes of glass.

The attack on St Catherine’s Church in Tullamore, Co Offaly, is believed to have taken place between Monday and Wednesday morning.

It is estimated repairing the windows and installing security measures to prevent future vandalism could cost up to €70,000.

Rev Isaac Delamere told RTE every window not covered by wire mesh was damaged.

He said he believed it to have been a sectarian attack which had left the entire community shocked and saddened.
