7 million fake cigs seized at Dublin Port
Counterfeit haul REVENUE officers have seized 7.2 million smuggled cigarettes at Dublin Port.
They were discovered when customs officers conducted an examination of freight which arrived from Rotterdam.
The officers were assisted by their mobile X-ray scanner and detector dog Kelly.
It is estimated the seized cigarettes, branded “Excellence” and “Gold Classic”, could have lost the Exchequer €3.2million.
A Revenue spokesperson said: “The majority of people pay the right amount of tax and duty.
“If anyone has information about smuggling or the sale of illegal tobacco products they can contact us on 1800 295 295.”
